Notably, Representatives Wesley Hunt of Texas and Ken Buck of Colorado came back to Washington at Mr. McCarthy’s request to vote in his favor for speaker. And Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia aligned herself with Mr. McCarthy during the speaker fight and was ousted from the Freedom Caucus over the summer. With far-right members of his caucus in revolt over suspending the debt ceiling, Mr. McCarthy was forced to negotiate a deal with President Biden, further enraging the already volatile faction. In another blow to Mr. McCarthy, the bipartisan measure passed with more Democrats than Republicans. They did so to punish Mr. McCarthy for making a deal with Mr. Biden to suspend the debt limit.

Espen Finstad was trudging through mud in the Jotunheimen mountains of eastern Norway this month when he happened upon a wooden arrow, bound with a pointed tip made of quartzite. Complete with feathers, it was so well-preserved that it looked as if it could have been lost just recently. But Mr. Finstad, a glacial archaeologist for the county of Innlandet, knew better. By his estimate, the arrow is probably about 3,000 years old. “I was really excited,” he said.

Rep. Jim Hagedorn's principal campaign committee just refunded him more than $1,100 for mileage. The Friends of Hagedorn campaign committee refunded Rep. Jim Hagedorn, a Republican lawmaker from Minnesota, more than $1,100 for "mileage" on September 20, a report filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission indicates. By that measure, Hagedorn's campaign reimbursed him for about 1,937 miles of travel. Thomas Datwyler, the custodian of records and treasurer for the Friends of Hagedorn committee, did not respond to Insider's request for comment. But as of September 30, Hagedorn's campaign committee still had about $141,000 cash on hand, according to federal records.
